07Sep2005 - RSA, the world's leading information security event, held its fourth annual gathering in Tokyo last month. The event attracted an audience of 6000 where Symantec Japan showcased a portfolio of products and gave a well-received keynote speech.
It was a tough act to follow Symantec's high profile participation at the flagship RSA show held in San Francisco earlier this year. However, our team in Japan pulled out all the stops and the event proved to be a resounding success not only for Symantec Japan, but for the show itself as the event attracted the largest number of visitors of any RSA Japan show. The two-day event drew hundreds of IT security professionals as well as CIOs, CEOs of major Japanese companies and high-level government officials. It was held at the Tokyo Prince Hotel Park Tower in May.

Symantec Japan once again sponsored this year's event as a Platinum-level sponsor. In addition, for the past two years, Takahiro Sugiyama, President, Symantec Japan, has been a member of the RSA Governance Committee helping to raise awareness of security issues in the country, as well as providing guidance on RSA Japan's content and direction each year.
Helping to kick off the two-day program at RSA Japan, Charles Nikiel, Sr. Marketing Director gave a thought-provoking keynote speech, entitled "Re-examining the Security Industry: What is our Value Proposition to our Customer." His discussion topics ranged from current market trends and what corporations should be looking for to regulatory concerns and future directions for the security industry.
"Enterprises face three major problems: cost, complexity and compliance, when exploring the need to implement an information security strategy," says Charles. "It's imperative that companies assign these tasks to a dedicated Information Security Officer whose main responsibility is to ensure the information at their company is up, running and available at all times. They can best analyze and implement a long-term strategy that is cost-effective."
Throughout the event, RSA Japan holds technical breakout sessions covering various aspects of information security such as the latest technological trends, technical standards, legal systems, and policies. Symantec participated in two of those sessions: Yoshimi Matsuda, Principal Security Consultant, Consulting Service, Symantec gave a presentation on "Information Security Management for the Enterprise" while Kevin Murray, Director, Product Marketing at Symantec discussed "Spyware Protection in the Enterprise". "Spyware is not a major in issue in Japan as it is in North America or Europe, but it's critical we get the information on this topic out through thought leadership in Japan," notes Kevin.
Symantec Japan took center stage at the Antispam Pavilion where the team showcased a whole host of products with demonstrations and overviews of Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange, Gateway Security 5400 Series, Gateway Security 300/400 Series, Network Security 7100 Series, Enterprise Security Manager, and Deep Sight.
